211 - Head, remains of bust, left arm

Akan civilization ?

These are the very fragmented remains of a small well-made character, with a highly detailed and attenuated hairstyle. All that is left of this piece is the head, perfectly identifiable as a male, and the left arm, fingers spread wide, ready to close, greet, or receive.

The eyes are closed, and the mouth open. From its condition, we can deduce that the head of the sculpture was worked separately and very carefully, and later placed on the neck, as a nail which one drives in. Perforations surround the mouth, undoubtedly of scarifications and tattoos.

The man is wearing a kind of knitted tambourine-shaped bonnet.
