Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria
The contrast on this sculpture with its very large round head and its well defined, stylized, and detailed clothing, is astonishing. The head looks like a diving helmet worthy of Jules Verne, with two very round ears, two lottery-ball eyes, and a large nose arched like some comic strip character. The navel is round, and quite rudimentary. The clothing on the other hand is richly decorated with embroideries or jewels. The two arms have been broken.
The subject represented, as well as the function of the object, are unknown.
