148 - Man/Woman Janus

Sokoto

Quite a beautiful statue with two faces, one representing a man and the other a woman, diametrically opposed but perfectly symbiotic. The arms are slender, resting on the hips while a third arm consists only of a small section of the shoulder and the hand. The ears and the nostrils are hollowed out. The figures are clearly sexual, well identifiable, perfectly complimentary and united in the same gesture, at the same time poetic, symbolic and their own. A superb work of an enormous rarity.
