152 - Religious mantis woman, anthropo-zoomorphic

An exceptional piece and very rare because at first view, it is a woman who is represented, but this one is not in one of the quite coded statuary Nok positions reserved for female subjects. Still, all the archetypes are present, the stylized hair, the ornaments, in one word the Nok aesthetic. The exceptionality is that this piece is an anthropo-zoomorphic representation of a half human half animal. To be specific, the combination of a woman and a religious mantis, recognizible from its rostrum in the form of a beak, ready to consume. The symbolism is all too apparent to be a surprise.
