There are pieces more important than others not so much in their size, but in the more appreciable domain of the aestheticism or expressiveness of their form. This one is a small statue, quite moving in its simplicity, its destitution, its sort of awkwardness, its arms akimbo and its nose in the air. But what could explain the tilt of the head toward the sky? Is it a silent prayer, a plea, an expectation, a hope? The neck is encircled by a thick necklace, the facial traits are eroded and the expression is rendered even less distinct for this statue that has frequently changed hands.
